Current mood: smelly

Things do have a smell!
I can smell today! It's a miracle!

*immediately runs out to buy scented things*

I'm still coughing like there's no tomorrow. Bleh.

Pat poked me at 9 this morning and said I ought to get up. *headdesk* I think that was the fastest I ever got dressed in my life. I was, needless to say, rather late.

Work is unbearable, it is so busy. Our secretary has been sick all week, and I have to figure out real estate, which I am not so good at.

Tonight is Grey's Anatomy! I still can't believe they cancelled Moonlight. One little episode left. And then, gone. I hope Coraline shows up for the last show. Although I don't think she does. She made the show for me.

I'm making beef and broccoli for dinner. Yum.

Real estate sucks and I am not good at it either. I am hoping to improve some of my skills when I have real estate law in the fall. This is why I plan on going into family law...so I can never be bored. Although I have to say for the record...you have to have a really thick skin to do family law. It isn't for everyone and I know many that shy away from it...or flat out refuse to do it. But it is my passion. Do you work in a general practice or does your firm have a concentration on something?
I have been reading some of your posts recently and I am curious..why are you so unhappy with your job? Is it the firm that you are at? Your boss? The people? Or is it the work itself? I am just curious...

I always wanted to go into Family Law, but ended up in Estates, which is pretty boring. Our firm does everything - each lawyer has their own specialty, so I end up working with one or two lawyers mostly.

I think the reason I am unhappy is a combination of all the things you mentioned. I'm not sure I could spell out how many things make me miserable here in one comment box.

Have you considered switching firms? How large is the firm that you are at? There are three areas of law that I have no intrest in whatsoever..Real estate, bankruptcy, and any type of corporate law. Family law is my main interest. However, I have considered personal injury and medical malpractice as back up options.
I think with law that you really have to have a passion for it. I know of paralegals and legal secretaries that do a little bit of everything. However, I know for myself that i need an area of concetration. I myself am trying to find a firm that either solely does family law or had an extreme concetration on it. Family law is such a speciality area of law. I find that lawyers that do it in addition to several other areas are not as good as those who have it as their sole concentration.
I actually read an article in the New Jersey Law Journal a couple of weeks ago, that said (and this is in NJ) that more and more new firms that open are shying away from being general practices. The simple fact is, you cannot be good at everything. Plain and simple.
